Educating world-class professionals of the future.
Historical Background
Emilio Aguinaldo College is a private, non-sectarian, co-educational establishment managed by the Yaman Lahi Foundation, Inc., a non-stock, non-profit organization. It is the first established college in the Philippines that honors Emilio Aguinaldo, the first President of the Republic; a historical milestone of tremendous significance which few Filipinos recognize for what it is: the creation of new state, the birth of a truly Filipino nation.
The history of EMILIO AGUINALDO COLLEGE begins with a man who had a dream – Dr. Paulo C. Campos, President of the University Physicians’ Services, Inc (UPSI) who was its founding president, and where Emilio Aguinaldo College belongs as one of its subsidiaries.
The forerunner of EAC was the Marian School of Midwifery founded in 1957, under the management of the Marian Clinics, Inc. The University Physicians’ Services, Inc. took over the management of the school in 1973. Under the new management, its meteoric rise as an institution of higher learning was unstoppable. The school became Marian Junior College, and within the next year its status was elevated to a full pledged college known as Marian College.
In line with the government’s policy at this point in time on government dispersal and decongestion of student population in Metro Manila, particularly in institutions of higher learning as well as the need for regional development and democratization opportunities, Marian College began building the first school units in Dasmariñas, Cavite in 1977, which was hoped to become its main campus amid a sprawling 27- hectare site ideally situated in gentle slopes surrounded by beautiful countryside.
In September, 1977, the name Marian College was changed to General Emilio College, to apply to both Manila and Cavite campuses. This was in consonance with the new directions of the government in recognizing and honoring national heroes. Subsequently, the title “General” was dropped, and the college was then called Emilio Aguinaldo College as it is known today.
All courses offered in Manila were given permit to be offered in Cavite. In addition, the Cavite campus offered Technical courses.
The New Philosophy (2005)
The Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite has been in existence for nine (9) years. Our educational philosophy was from the very outset clearly stated in our mission/vision statement.
Now on its 10th year, we have decided to amend that educational philosophy. The original philosophy covers exclusively our responsibility as educators, EAC feels that our responsibility goes beyond the bounds of education and should include our responsibilities as citizens to our society and the problems it will have to surmount.
More specifically, our problem is very closely intertwined with our rapidly rising population and organizing and preparing ourselves to provide the basic necessities for all our people. Our most formidable problem is to become a disciplined society, starting with SELF, COMMUNITY, NATIONAL DISCIPLINE is imperative if we are not only to survive but to prosper in this present day world. Next to the home, the school is the most important institution to undertake this responsibility.
Clearly, we are confronted with a problem beyond the scope of just education – the most formidable problem that is poverty. It is not enough that we alleviate poverty. We should eradicate it. We have to provide education for leadership in the various disciplines. Education has to explore models that may be used to provide better health care and medical coverage for all members of our society; and encourage a business orientation to spur economic activity and create better job opportunities and training for these jobs. Emilio Aguinaldo College is embarking in an entrepreneurial education with the help of our banking sector both government and private to provide needed resources to emerging ventures. In short, education must be geared for a better life for our people.
We hope with the participation of our schools, we can initiate a national movement for prosperity to realize our dream as a people of a stable, just and prosperous Republic.
