The Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science, Technology and Innovation (PhilAASTI) has honored 10 Filipino scientists and leaders whose work addresses challenges in health, agriculture, environmental sustainability, technology, and other fields.

The 2026 PhilAASTI Awards were among the highlights of the association’s 75th Annual National Convention, held on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at The Manila Hotel. The event was attended by EAC Research Directors Dr. Venus Solar from EAC-Manila and Dr. Brandon Sibbaluca from EAC-Cavite.

Dr. Janus P. Ong received the Paulo Campos Award for Health Research for his contributions to liver disease and viral hepatitis research, as well as to public-health initiatives. He has published more than 90 peer-reviewed studies and led the Department of Health-funded project “Ending the Silent Epidemic of Chronic Hepatitis in the Philippines,” which established an updated estimate of the country’s viral hepatitis burden.

Through the StITCH program, or Strengthening the Integrated Treatment and Care for Hepatitis in the Philippines, Ong has worked with local governments to integrate hepatitis diagnosis and treatment into primary healthcare services.
